A book club but for videogames. Can it be done?

Hi I’m at work and I’m bored. I wonder, has anybody been part of a videogame club before? If not, would you like to be?

Hi I'm at work and I'm bored. I wonder, has anybody been part of a videogame club before? If not, would you like to be?

The general idea is that it'll be like a book club but with videogames. It'll be run monthly to give people time to play (rpgs might require a longer period). We can use the thread to talk about our experiences.

Games will be voted on in advance from a range of options, nominated by you, the devoted videogame club gamer. You won't be held at gun point to take part...

Was GTA V weak compared to GTA IV?

I thought IV was a really sharp, funny game. You play as this violent immigrant who comes over to New York for a better life and finds nothing but shit in his face. He learns his cousin is a lying moron, weighted over by bigger ballers in the taxi business – itself surely one of the lowest ranking professions you could ever think of. He keeps on...

Games you liked that others (generally) didn’t.

By others, I mean people on this forum. God knows what the outside even looks like.

I'll start:

Gone Home. I thought it was endearing coming-of-age story, set in the backdrop of some sweet 90s nostalgia. I loved just wandering around the house learning about the family, like the dad who had some weird obsession with alternate history and was, like many of us, a failed writer. I also really dug all the references to pop punk and zines.

Slight disclaimer on this one because I can’t tell if this is just something I feel or if it’s a commonly held belief.

Slight disclaimer on this one because I can't tell if this is just something I feel or if it's a commonly held belief.

I remember a few years ago when indie games first came into the mainstream. To me it felt like a really exciting time when we saw an emergence of ideas that we hadn't previously (think Papers Please and The Stanley Parable). Prior to this, there was a time around 2009/10 when games like Bioshock and Spec Ops: The Line came into fashion. This is when we saw a lot of cool...

Mother anti-subjectively has a great soundtrack but which is the greatest tune to reach your ears?

I think we can all agree that Mother is objectively a series whose resonant choral sounds strike the ears with the highest degree of personal satisfaction. Whilst various other video games may reach similar peaks, it is without dubious composition of this arranged argument that there exists a high volume of banging tunes within that triptych of games we call the Mother series - yes even that oddball first game which nobody has played, since affected by an unfortunate passage of revisionism...
